2025 Cape Nominated
National Blue Ribbon School
Newport Central Catholic (NCC) is proud to announce that the Council for American Private Education (CAPE)
has nominated NCC as a 2025 National Blue Ribbon School in an announcement made on the CAPE website on Friday, September 12, 2025.
Timeline of Events
- Each year, the Secretary of Education would invite CAPE to nominate up to 50 private schools that met the criteria for recognition. Newport Central Catholic was one of two schools selected from the state of Kentucky this year.
- Newport Central Catholic achieved these standards with both the 2024 and 2025 graduating classes.
- On August 4, 2025 Judy Cercone, Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program from the U.S. Department of Education, notified Principal Kenny Collopy via email that “Your school has met all of the requirements, however, I’d appreciate it if you held this good news “close to the vest” until after the Secretary’s official announcement”.
- On August 29, 2025, an announcement came from the United States Department of Education notifying schools that the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program would be terminated, effective immediately.
- On Friday, September 12, 2025, CAPE released a full list of 2025 CAPE-nominated schools.
- On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, NCC issues a press release notifying the public of its nomination.
