High School Placement Test (HSPT)

The Diocese of Covington High School Placement Test is offered at NCC annually in December.

High School Placement Test

Newport Central Catholic is excited to act as your host for the High School Placement Test on the first Saturday in December.  To register for the test, click the link below.

A few things should be stressed about the HSPT. First, be assured the results of this test are used to help our staff place students in appropriate classes. It is not used to accept or reject students. There are no cut-off scores, no passing or failing scores. Secondly, we advise you to get a restful night of sleep before the test and eat a good breakfast that morning. NCC will provide all materials, including pencils. Calculators are NOT permitted. As students arrive, all should come in through the front entrance and check in at the registration table in the main lobby. The test is scheduled to begin at 9:00 A.M. We ask that you be here no later than 8:30 A.M. for preliminary instructions. The test will end around 12:15 P.M.

While NCC does not use the test results for admission purposes, the school does recognize the highest achievers. We will be award the following scholarships: Top scorer- $1000 per year for 4 years; 2nd highest score- $750 per year for 4 years; 3rd through 6th best scores- $750 per year for 2 years: and 7th through 10th best scores- $500 per year for 2 years. To be eligible for these scholarships students must take the placement test at NCC. Any student regardless of parish or grade school affiliation is eligible for these scholarships if they take the test at NCC on the December test day. We have additional scholarships available that are awarded based on entrance test results and financial need.  Please visit our Scholarship Page for more information.

If you are requesting accommodations, please contact Ms. Kathy Niehaus (kniehaus@ncchs.com) as soon as possible to allow time to request materials. Students must: 1) have a diagnosed learning disability or 2) be currently receiving accommodations AND in the process of being formally tested. No accommodations will be given without approval prior to the testing day.

Please help us prepare for this test by pre-registering and paying the $20 fee by using the link below. We will accept online registrations up to and including the morning of the test. Your pre-registration will facilitate our preparation.

When you register for the placement test, you are NOT registering for enrollment at Newport Central Catholic for your freshman year. Freshmen enrollment information and forms will be sent out after the first of the year.

We look forward to seeing you for the HSPT in December. If you have any questions, please contact the main school office at 859-292-0001 or Mrs. Stefanie Gray, Assistant Principal at sgray@ncchs.com.

HSPT Prep Course

NCC is pleased to offer a two-hour course designed to help prepare any eighth grader for the HSPT. We offer the same HSPT prep course on two different days typically in late November to Early December. This course is available to all 8th grade students in the Diocese of Covington, regardless of where they plan to take the exam in December.

The $20 fee includes printed course materials for further test prep. Payment can be made the day of the session by cash or check. Registrations will be accepted the day of the event.
