AN
END OF AN ERA
COACH
BOB SCHNEIDER STEPS DOWN
AS
COACH OF
NEWPORT
CENTRAL CATHOLIC
FOOTBALL
PROGRAM
|
|
Today,
long time Newport Central Catholic High School Football Coach Bob
Schneider announced his retirement as the head coach of the
Thoroughbreds, a post he has held for 44 years. This comes
after health issues sidelined the coach midway through the season.
In late December, Coach Schneider underwent surgery to remove an
aortic aneurysm.
Coach
Schneider said, “After consulting with my doctors and family I
have decided I should resign as coach of the Thoroughbreds.”
Schneider faces an extended period of cardiac rehab to regain his
strength which could last from six months to a year.
NCCHS
Principal Bob Noll expressed his gratitude and respect for Coach
Schneider saying, “His commitment to not only our football program
but our entire school is phenominal. He has dedicated his life
to the Catholic education of so many students through his coaching
and teaching. He was instrumental in helping our school to
begin our tuition assistance program. He has impacted the
lives of so many young people over the years. He exemplifies
the ideals and traditions of Newport Central Catholic. He is
truly a legend.”
Coach
Schneider expressed his thanks to all of his past and present
coaching staffs. He said, “I am grateful to all the young
men I have had the honor of coaching over the years and to all those
who coached along side of me.”

The team this year is coached by three
lawyers who are all NCC alumni. Nick Donnermeyter class
of 1998, Ed Clark class of 1987, and David Futscher class of
1980 have been meeting with the team every Tuesday evening since December.
They will continue to meet with them up to the state competition
which will be March 5-7th.
The competition again this year will
be held at the Louisville Justice Center with all teams
participating in at least four trials. The top two teams in
the state after the Saturday competition will then compete in a
championship round on Sunday. The winner then is eligible
to participate in the national competition.
The team has already had the
experience of being a jury for the Chase Law School Mock Trial
competition. Judge William Wehr had selected our team to sit
as a jury and witness students at Chase Law School go into a court
of law and argue a mock murder trial. The jury found the defendant
"not guilty".
Team members for the Prosecution side
are; LAWYERS-Fran Schultz, Kimberly Bihl, and Catie Butts; PROSECTUTION
CHARACTER WITNESSES; Alex Wiedeman, Kevin Goldstein, and Eric
Schwarber. Team members for the Defense side are;
LAWYERS-Aaron Schultz, Randy Vennemann, and Elizabeth Grothaus;
DEFENSE CHARACTER WITNESSES; Adam Meyer, Linbdsay Hardebeck, and
Tyler Ryan representing Cassius Clay. Our timekeeper
this year will be Stan Mohr.
Thanks to our lawyer coaches for
volunteering their time and experience in helping our students do
their best. Also, thanks to Judge Wehr for thinking of us in
allowing us to particpate in their trial at Chase Law School
Good luck to the team as they prepare
for the competition.
