| In a continued
effort to improve student reading and comprehension skills, the English
Department, with approval from the administration, is requiring all
students to read a novel and to answer comprehension questions over the
summer break. The questions will be due the first full day of classes and
should be turned in to the student’s homeroom teacher. All students will
be tested on the novel during the first week of their English Part A
class. The novels for the various grade and ability levels are listed.

Although the English Department owns copies
of all of these novels, it does not own enough for every student to have
one. The department will allow students to borrow a summer novel on a
first come, first served basis. Students may check these books out in the
library prior to summer break and in the main office during summer break.
Borrowing a copy of the book from the public library or purchasing one at
a book store are other options. The English Department thanks our students
and their parents in advance for their support and cooperation in this new
endeavor. Your support will help the department move forward in its
efforts to make every NCC student a better, more competent reader and
writer. |
