NCC encourages students to become involved in one or more of the clubs, organizations, or sports programs offered at school.  Some clubs are of an academic nature; others are service or social justice related.  The majority of NCC students participate in at least one extracurricular activity.  Below is a brief description of each.  The moderator of each group is listed and should be contacted for specific information.  Faculty names and emails are listed on the NCC website under faculty

ACADEMIC TEAM

There are three Academic Teams at NCC: The Varsity team, the Junior Varsity team and the Freshman team. Competition begins in September and students participate throughout the school year including tournaments. Mr. Tim Schaffer is the sponsor of all three teams.

MATHLETES

Students who enjoy math have the opportunity to participate in a local and national math competition including the John O'Bryan Competition.

THE UPPER ROOM

This past July 2008, during the Church’s World Youth Day Celebration in Sydney, Australia, Pope Benedict XVI called on "young people ‘from every nation under heaven’ (cf. Acts 2:5),"… to… "be a new Upper Room…letting the fire of God’s love descend to fill your hearts, unite you ever more fully to the Lord and his Church, and send you forth, a new generation of apostles, to bring the world to Christ!" Charged with this mission (and formed from the group formerly known as DIRT - Discussing Inspiring Readings in Theology), The Upper Room seeks to serve the entire NCCHS student body, with dynamic worship, fellowship, and service, all in the name of growing in closer union with Jesus Christ, and bringing Him out into the world.

THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION

Student Government Association at NCC is led by Mr. Kevan Brown and Mrs. Nicole Sealy. It is the link between the students and the administration. SGA’s job is to be the voice of the student body and to lead and promote the school. SGA sponsors several student committees, dances, spirit days, and pep rallies. The group also assists with Open House, the Mentor Program and more.

CULINARY CLUB

The Culinary Club  is an extracurricular group where students can learn the basics of cooking in the kitchen, learn to create culinary dishes and menus, and extend their culinary interests into the real world with visits to local restaurants or culinary attractions as well as opportunities to practice their culinary skills at school events. The Culinary Club hopes to instill a greater understanding of the world of food, develop positive attitudes, foster strong leadership and management skills and develop communication – all vital skills in nearly every field of work.  Mr. Beiting is the top chef of the club!

PEP CLUB

The NCC Pep Club is open to all students. This group promotes school spirit by encouraging attendance at school-sponsored events. Some of their activities include selecting theme nights for particular games, organizing caravans, planning contests, and pep rallies.

STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

The Student Ambassador Program is composed of students who assist the Development Office with recruitment activities in our grade schools. These events include 8th grade visits to NCC, NCC visits to district schools and the NCC Open House. Student Ambassadors are also asked to assist with the Alumni Phoning for Annual Appeal follow-up. Teachers recommend students who they feel are comfortable speaking in group settings. Names are passed on to Mrs. Tessy Krebs and Mrs. Mary Ciafardini in the Development Office.

STUDENT NEWSPAPER

The school newspaper, The Hilltopper, is open to all classes and every student is welcome to join.  What makes our newspaper unique is the ability of our students to write on a topic that interests them.  The focus of this year's newspaper is to make the student body aware of the world around them and to let them be heard within the school community.  The advisor for the newspaper is Mr. Kevan Brown.

MOCK TRIAL

Mock Trial provides the opportunity for students to experience what it’s like to be in a court of law and to experience what it is like to be on both sides of a case. It provides an opportunity for the students to organize a case from both the prosecution and defense and compete on a state level. Mr. Bill Morgan is the moderator for Mock Trial.

STUDENTS FOR LIFE

Mr. Ron Auteri coordinates the Students For Life Group. Students will be exposed to various pro-life issues ranging from abortion to euthanasia. It is hoped that they will develop a deeper respect for human life from the moment of conception to natural death. We try to achieve this goal through emphasis on prayer, sacraments, education, and involvement in activities. Students are also given the opportunity each year to participate in the March For Life and travel to Washington, D.C.

YEARBOOK

The maestro of memories, Mr. Mark Patterson heads up a talented yearbook staff whose sole purpose is to bring the school year to life in the pages of Reflections. The staff uses Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and a lot of heart to have those memories come sweeping back through time. The yearbook is a production within the Design Classes.

CHOIR/LITURGY GROUP/MUSICIANS

This group is open to all students who are interested throughout the school year to participate in school liturgies, etc. Deacon Jerry Franzen, Mr. Gary Devoto and Mrs. Therese Blank coordinate details for school masses and Choir. Church choir does outreach activities by singing at local schools, parishes, and other community agencies.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

To be eligible for membership for National Honor Society (NHS), the candidate must be a member of the Sophomore or Junior class. Also, they must have been in attendance at NCC for a least one Trimester, and they must meet the minimum grade point average. Once this criterion has been met, students are considered candidates to the program. Membership is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection is by a majority vote by a faculty committee and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership. Mr. Bill Stamm oversee the process of NHS.

NCC BLOOD DRIVE COMMITTEE

The Blood Drive Committee works in conjunction with Hoxworth Blood Center to host donor drives three to four times per year. NCC is proud to give back to the community in this capacity. It has been ranked in the top three in high schools in Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky year after year for the large number of donors recruited for this event. We hope to continue this tradition. Ms. Beth Schuck is the contact person for the Blood Drive Committee.

NCC DRAMA CLUB

The NCC Drama Club gives students an understanding of theatre and allows them an opportunity to express themselves through fine arts. Performance opportunities are a wonderful way to assist with self-confidence and self esteem. Students may choose to be a part of the Drama Club without being on the school play. There are typically just as many students helping off the stage as actors on the stage. NCC is dedicated to the total drama experience of learning, commitment, and theatre. Mr. Kevan Brown is the Drama Club Faculty Advisor.

BOWLING CLUB TEAM

Mrs. Jenny Mertle is the moderator for the NCC Bowling Club Team. Walt’s Center Lanes is the sponsor of the team. The NCC Bowling Club competes against 15 other school teams from Northern Kentucky. A Conference Championship and a State Tournament is held each year. There is a limit of ten boys and ten girls who can be listed on the roster. In October, tryouts are held for the bowling team and sessions begin in mid November for a twelve-week session. Practices are held after school on Monday and matches are on Thursday. Team members are required to pay a membership fee of  $35.00.

BIOLOGY CLUB

The goal of the Biology Club is to make science less intimidating and more fun. We offer learning opportunities that will go beyond the classroom, and explore careers in science. Several guest speakers and field trips will be available throughout the year. In the past we have traveled to Costa Rica and hope to also travel to Belize in the near future to study their unique ecosystems. Membership is open to all students and the club is moderated by Mr. Bill Stamm.
